What is the difference between stranded wire and parallel wire?

In this article, we will explain the characteristics of each braided yarn and help you choose the most suitable one for your project. Both are from the same family of braided yarns and are made by braiding several thin cotton filaments together to create a consistent and robust cord.


As for normal braiding, it is produced with a tighter stitch for a smoother, “running” texture. That’s why it has a flat shape.

The parallel braided yarn, on the other hand , is produced using a different braiding function, to give it a more rounded shape and a rougher texture, as you can see here.


These types of yarns, both one and the other, are often chosen for wall panels, plant hangers, swings, curtains, fashion accessories or any other piece that requires durability and resistance. If you want to give your work a more linear drape, a straight finish that cannot fray/sag easily, these yarns are perfect for you.

For those who want to create a fringe effect, you can comb them from the ends. You will need a brush and a little patience, as it is more difficult due to the tight braid.
